THE BEGINNING

The first recorded project was in February 1984, it was unique in the fact that the design by artist Nancy Holt contained Gunite spheres and tunnels with shadow-images inset in the ground. Each year on August 1, the day (in 1860) that William Henry Ross acquired the land that became Rosslyn; the actual shadows align with the shadow-images at 9:32 am. This was to become Dark Star Park located at 1655 North Fort Myer Drive Arlington, VA 22201

Capitol Gunite is Formed

James Wilcoxon founded our company with help from many and became known as Capitol Gunite Company, a division of Wilcoxon construction. Jim Wilcoxon and Clagett Canady Jr. known too many as (Slugger) worked together building the company. The Newly formed Capital Gunite rented a lot located in Woodbridge, VA in 1985 and developed there first full-time crew. As the years pasted and the customer base grew so did the crews and equipment. The Airplaco 634 & 744 mix elevators was used up until 1989 when new Batching trucks was introduced with the ability to bring Gunite to the sites.

Leading with Full Service

In 1991 the company was renamed to Top Gun of Virginia, Inc. and relocated to Lorton, VA. 2009 Top Gun branched out into the Commercial Construction industry and with hard work-built relationships with many of the well-known Construction Companies in the DMV. Top Gun was primarily a Gunite contractor, but in 2010 Top Gun hired Joseph Skarwecki who for many years ran his own Shotcrete Company. Joe helped us develop our crews to become skilled in Shotcrete to fulfill our goal to become a Full Service Gunite / Shotcrete contractor. Today Top Gun has replaced most of our fleet once again with the latest technology for the application of Gunite and Shotcrete, that along with ASA training we strive to be the best.
